Barn Owl

Because he begins flying at dusk it is difficult to get a good photo as the light is so poor.
This is my best effort so far.

He really is quite beautiful.

Big Expanse of Beach

This is a long beach and very few people on it.

In the distance there is a tractor for pulling the boats up the beach.

A Splash of Colour

We had a drop of rain this morning, but, a few drops and the garden looked quite fresh.
We need more rain, however, this bit was fun.

Rain or No Rain

The poor weather forecasters cannot decide if we will get rain, they think it will be hit or miss.
This is the sky this evening, not red, but, certainly pink.
Shall we get rain or not? We certainly need it.

There Is Still Light

The sun set several hours ago, yet there is still light in the western sky.

Silly Me

I made this picture, then forgot to post it here.

Sunny days ahead.
Grey day here so we need to lighten our spirits and think of sunny days.

Hare in the Early Morning Sunshine.

One hare and all this spring barley to eat.
There are other hares around, however, with this much food they can afford to choose their patch.

Cuckoo

While working in the garden I saw several more swifts flying around, definitely a welcome sight.

The sound that filled my ears was that of the cuckoo. This is a bird whose call became its name and while it is a welcome sign of spring, with many people trying to be the first tot hear the cuckoo, the some is rather monotonous.
I assume that the female flies around and the male just sits and sings, cuckoo, cuckoo, until a female hears.

European cuckoos do not build nests, instead they lay their eggs in the nests of other birds. When the baby cuckoo hatches it shovels the eggs and chicks onto its back and heaves them over the edge of the nest, leaving it the sole chick and the poor adult birds, who are often very much smaller than it a momentous task of feeding their adopted offspring.

I did not take this pic.

Screeeeeech

The swifts are back.
I only saw three today, I expect more will be along tomorrow.
They are so difficult to take a photo of.

Swallows Return

Keep forgetting to let you know that the swallows and house martins have returned, there are cuckoos making their sound all around.
Now we await the swifts and summer will have begun.
