Sparkling Day

Today was a lovely day for blue sky, fluffy white clouds and sparkling colours.

Horse chestnut flowers

The horse chestnut tree has conkers in the autumn.
In the spring the tree bears lovely flowers, what I had not realised was the amount of colour that can be found in the chestnut flower spikes.
The flowers when seen from afar look white, up close they show pink and yellow are part of the flowers colour scheme, amazing.

Barn Owls

There are a pair of barn owls nesting in that tree over there!
I sat for a while but they did not appear.
Wonder if I will spend all summer missing taking a photo of the barn owls?

Walk in the Bluebell Woods

Had a walk through the bluebell woods at the weekend.

I just adore bluebells and as it was a rather warm day their scent was wonderful.

Voles

The sad truth is we have voles!
I understand that there really are FAR more important and really sad things going on, however, when you are trying to grow food and find it is being eaten away under the earth, and the poor plants no longer have roots it is sad.  Oh and very annoying.

On a positive, the apple trees have a profusion of blossom, let's hope for a bountiful harvest this autumn.

Picked Early

Cut these branches and brought them inside and they have started flowering.

January Catkins

These have been flowering for so long they are near the end of their time, hopefully they will have succeeded in pollinating the female and there will be hazel nuts later in the year.

SunSet Drama

How is this for a bit of sunset drama?

The sky was almost completely covered in clouds, aside from a small crack that let the drama of the sunset shine through.

Cygnets to Swans

These cygnets are preening as they slowly lose their brown feathers to reveal the splendid white feathers when spring comes round.

Mid January and They are Ready

As soon as it warms a little I am sure these blossom buds will open, of course as it is only January and there will be frosts aplenty this is a rash move on the part of the tree as the blossom will freeze and the fruit will never form. That is super bad news for me too as I so enjoy the plums.

Pink & Yellow

Pink and yellow represent spring to me.
I bought small bunches of daffodils and tulips which quickly opened in the warmth of the house.

What makes you think of spring?

Garden Flowers

I took a little walk round the garden to see what flowers, if any, I could find.
First I came across these beautiful white bell clematis flowers. There were so many clustering on the plant.

Then I looked around and found an amazing variety of flowers; I picked some and put them on an old log covered with lichen, I love the variety of colours.

There is an anemone, cornflower, rose, calendula, night scented stock, rudbeckia, chrysanthemum.

Riverwalk

We when we started our walk along the river it was sunny and bright.
Clouds began arriving and the wind began to blow, luckily, no rain arrived.
